A 43-year-old banker from Byculla turns into a recent sufferer of cyber fraud when a fraudster pretends to be a buyer's care advisor for her cellular service provider scamming her ₹3.49 lakh. The scammer lured her into the lure on the pretext of updating her KYC details, police said.
On Sunday morning, the banker received a text message from an unknown quantity asking her to exchange her papers with the cell phone service provider, in any other case her quantity is likely to be blocked, the message said. As the complainant entered all her card details and made the fee €20, she was shocked to find out that 1 lakh amount had been deducted from her account. She asked Singh about the transaction she confirmed the refund and asked her to share the app ID and asked her to let him access her mobile via the app.
As she let him in, another one was withdrawn from her account with a value of 2.49 thousand Egyptian pounds, realizing her mistake that she called the financial institution and blocked her card before approaching the police.
